Hillebrand garden bench

Gerrit Rietveld   |  1936

Rietveld never named his designs. At a later date, most of his designs are named after the client for whom they were made. This garden bench from 1936 was designed for the Hillebrand family, for whom he had previously designed a house in The Hague. The original version of the bench was painted white, with the lower part of the legs painted black in order to conceal any traces of dirt.

The bench, which has good proportions and a good seating angle, is also very comfortable without cushions. The Hillebrand bench is made of untreated FSC-certified Louro Gamela timber (Wana). The following sizes are available: 136 cm for the two-seater and 196 cm for the three-seater version.
